YEREVAN, MAY 25, ARMENPRESS. Argentine Ambassador to Armenia Mariano Vergara said relations between the two countries are at a high level. According to him, a lot has been done over the years for the development of Armenian-Argentine relations, but adds that there is still a lot to be done.

The ambassador told reporters today that the fact that there is an Argentine embassy in Armenia is also conditioned by the large Armenian community in Argentina. He said that is also the reason why a concert will take place in Yerevan on May 27 on the occasion of Argentina’s National Day, which is celebrated on May 25. “It is also a living manifestation of strong Armenian-Argentine ties,” he added.

The ambassador said he was impressed with Armenia, praising the high level of culture here and adding that music is loved and appreciated in Armenia.

“We noticed that the Armenian music-loving society shows a special attitude towards Argentine tango, in particular, they like the works of Astor Piazzolla. It would be better if an Argentinian bandoneonist came to Armenia, stayed here and gave concerts in the region and also played Argentinian music. It would be much better if an Argentine tango school opened in Armenia and there would be professional tango dancers here,” said Mariano Vergara.

He informed that they are planning another concert in Yerevan in October in cooperation with the State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia. The concert will be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Argentina.

“We are going to set up quite rich cultural programs. There will be photo exhibitions, presentations of translations of literary works and other events,” he said.
