– CU, PRSC sign a memorandum of understanding for research and university collaboration; to exchange teachers, knowledge, resources

– Center of Excellence established at the CU campus; Joint ME course in remote sensing and geoinformatics to be offered

CHANDIGAR, India, August 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Marking a groundbreaking moment, Chandigarh University, Gharuan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Punjab government’s first enterprise, Punjab Remote Sensing Center (PRSC) Ludhiana, to improve research and academic collaboration for the application of remote sensing and geospatial technology.

With this tactical partnership, the University of Chandigarh and the PRSC aim to share knowledge, faculty and resources to make advancements in the fields of geoinformatics and remote sensing with a focus on advanced geospatial tools and techniques.

The Memorandum of Understanding in this regard was signed between Professor (Dr) Anand AgarwalVice-Chancellor, University of Chandigarh and Dr Brijendra PateriyaDirector, PRSC, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Campus, Ludhiana, in the presence of senior members of CU and senior scientists of PRSC.

A Center of Excellence for Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing has also been inaugurated at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Chandigarh, aimed at fostering various initiatives including government missions which play a key role in the implementation and program monitoring through satellite data and other uses of sensors.

Give information, Prof (Dr) Anand Agarwal said that with this partnership, the two institutions will converge their energies, expertise and resources to focus on advanced geospatial tools and techniques for utility surveys and resource management, among others.

Apart from this, quality training will be imparted to students in the field of research and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, exhibitions and research publications, etc., even though Faculty development programs will be conducted at both institutions, he added.

Dr. Agarwal also informed that a joint Masters of Engineering (ME) program on topics related to remote sensing and geoinformatics will be offered by PRSC and the University of Chandigarh in the near future.

“This agreement will allow researchers from both institutions to work on joint research projects, exchange research materials, publish research articles in international and Indian scientific journals and provide assistance in book publication. improvements in research areas,” he added.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Brijendra PateriyaDirector, PRSC, Ludhiana said this collaboration will enhance the best use of resources to serve society by using geospatial infrastructure primarily to help our farmers, for disaster mitigation and management, utility surveys, water and land resources management, urban and rural development including landslide hazard zone (LHZ) and related aspects based on expertise and availability of resources in the respective institution.

Following the signing of the MoU, the two organizations discussed the need to develop techniques to mitigate natural disasters in the Himalayan zone.
