Defense Minister and top BJP leader Rajnath Singh on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birthday and described him as a top agricultural leader who has worked for empowerment of the weakest sections of society.
In a series of tweets, Singh said the late prime minister played an important role in developing the country and strengthening democracy.
“Throughout his life, Charan Singh has worked for the empowerment of the weakest layers of society,” said the leader of the BJP.
Singh also conveyed his greetings to the farmers on the occasion of the birthday of Charan Singh, also celebrated as “Kisan Diwas”.
“Farmers not only cultivate crops, but the happiness of the country and the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to their welfare,” Singh said.
Charan Singh was Prime Minister from July 1979 to January 1980.
