Chase & Status were announced as late additions to Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The drum and bass duo will take the stage at 6.30pm today.

There was a slot left empty by the absence of Charli XCX who withdrew from the festival and canceled two European concerts due to illness. There is no official confirmation that the duo have been brought in to replace her.

The pair are no strangers to performing in Coventry, having done a number of gigs in the city over the years. They appeared at both the Kasbah and the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Speaking in 2017, Saul Milton, better known as Chase, said: “We’ve had some great shows in Coventry over the years, last year we played MTV Crashes at the Ricoh Arena ( now the Coventry Building Society Arena) and it was one of those special gigs that you hang on to for a while The Kasbah is a great venue, we’ve played there a few times before and you know you can count on a good crowd through the gate at night.

The duo burst into the mainstream with the release of the song End Credits in 2011 and have collaborated with some of the world’s top artists, ranging from Pusha T to Chic’s Nile Rodgers to punk band Slaves. They are sure to bring the party to the last day of Radio 1’s big weekend.
