The main classification society ClassNK will create certificates and electronic reports issued to ships as a standard service from January 30, 2022.
For the convenience of customers, ClassNK has provided an environment in which documents can be used as electronic data on demand since the early 2000s for investigation records and since 2017 for class certificates and statutory certificates issued to the name of flag states. Electronization has become widespread due to its benefits in terms of reducing the paper handling burden, preventing loss, damage and forgery of papers, and facilitating information sharing between organizations. stakeholders such as teams and management companies. In particular, electronic certificates have been introduced in major flag states including Panama, Liberia, Singapore, Marshall Islands, Bahamas, Malta, etc., and accepted by regional CSPs.
As the environment has sufficiently improved after many years of operation, ClassNK will make electronic documents a standard service for class / statutory investigation files and ISM audit files (including DOC to a company) / ISPS / MLC issued for ships as well as for flag State certificates which allow electronic certificates from January 30, 2022. Documents are accessible through links sent to the e-mail address registered on “e-Application” , the online application system for vessels in service, and on “NK-SHIPS” storing information on vessels related to ClassNK. Certificates from flag states that have not yet authorized electronic certificates and certain other certificates continue to be provided in hard copy.
As a result, inquiries / audits for existing vessels will be accepted via e-Application. Guidance for using the electronic application and the scope of electronic documents can be found on the next page.
