Society Standard is about to open its doors in Cardiff for the first time where guests can experience its cool industrial vibe and mouthwatering meals for themselves.

After weeks of renovations, the laid-back Whitchurch Road venue will begin serving customers from 6 p.m. on Friday, July 22.

Serving a menu filled with local produce and a list of drinks to refresh, Society Standard is the brainchild of friends Tim Moores and Dom Wood who run the Urban Standard and North Street Standard in Bristol.

What does Cardiff’s new restaurant look like?

All three premises have been decorated using their industrial influences and exposed brickwork for a stripped-down feel, while contemporary art and graffiti from Bristol’s Upfest art gallery adorn the walls.

Cardiff’s new bar and kitchen spans 1,800 square feet and is divided into two open-plan rooms and can accommodate 100 guests.

On one side is the main bar and plenty of seating at smaller tables; while on the other side is the open kitchen and a number of large tables for large groups of friends and family.

Full-length, folding windows will give diners a chance to eat on the sidewalk in the summer, and at the rear a fully covered ‘open-air garden’ means alfresco dining and drinking will be an option whatever the weather. .

What about the food?

Trendy interiors aside, Society Standard’s varied menu is sure to be mouth-watering, and the emphasis is on using local suppliers wherever possible – from Tuscan toast to whipped ricotta, tomato and olive tapenade and toasted sourdough from Cardiff’s own Pettigrew bakery; Mac ‘n’ Pork sandwich made with macaroni and cheese, a fried egg and farmhouse pulled pork from butchers Douglas Willis of Cwmbran.

A range of local beers from The Waen Brewery and Pipes Beer will also be available at the bar.

Co-owner Dom Wood said: “After weeks of hard work we are delighted to finally welcome the people of Cardiff to our first location on Welsh soil – I have spent 10 years living in this area so it’s been good to be back.

“We had a lot of interest from the locals as we got ready for the opening, so it will be nice to meet them properly now, over a nice cold beer! “
