UNOCT’s specialized guides (modules) on the protection of vulnerable targets will be launched at a high-level online event on September 6, 2022. The opening of the event, which will be broadcast via UN Web TV from 10:00 a.m. at 10:45 am EST, New York time, will be chaired by the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov; and will include remarks by Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, HE Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani; the Acting Executive Director of CTED, Mr. Weixiong Chen; the director of UNICRI; Mrs. Antonia Marie De Meo; and the Chief of Staff and Spokesperson for the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Ms. Nihal Saad. Over 200 senior officials and experts from Member States, international and regional organizations, the private sector, civil society and academia, among other stakeholders, are expected to attend the event. These new thematic modules complement the 2018 UN Compendium of Good Practices on Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) from Terrorist Attacks by focusing on public places/”easy” targets as distinct types of sites worthy of attention. a dedicated security approach, including urban centers. , tourist sites, religious sites and the cross-cutting threat of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)
