Remi Schmaltz, Vincent Martin and Micah Siegel are all committed to the success of Index Biosystems

TORONTO, January 19, 2022 /CNW/ – Index Biosystems (Index) today announced the official addition of Remi Schmaltz as Vice President of Corporate Development, Prof. Vincent Martin as scientific adviser and Micah Siegel as a member of the board of directors.

Remi Schmaltz, co-founder of Index, will continue to serve as a director on its board of directors and has also joined the company full-time as vice president of corporate development. “Index has such a talented team, and the company is at an inflection point for incredible growth. They really have the potential to be a multi-billion dollar company,” says Remi. “With the increasing complexity of global supply chains, BioTags offer an opportunity to provide unprecedented trust and traceability as an on-product marker.”

Remi is a serial agricultural entrepreneur with an entrepreneurial passion. Most recently, he was CEO and co-founder of Decisive Farming Corp, which was launched in 2011 to develop and commercialize agricultural technologies for farmers. In the ten years under Rémi’s leadership, the company grew to over fifty employees and significant revenues. TELUS (TSE:T) acquired the company in 2019, where it continues to operate with over seventy employees within Telus Agriculture. Remi is Venture Partner at Panache Ventures, Member A100, CDL Agricultural Associate, PROSPER mentor and advisor and director of several private company boards.

Teacher Vincent Martin joins the Index team as a scientific advisor. He is a teacher and Concordia University Senior Research Chair in Applied Synthetic Biology, as well as founder and co-director of the Center for Applied Synthetic Biology, who Houses from Canada unique Genome Foundry. In 2003, he co-founded Amyris Inc. with the support of a $43M grant from the Gates Foundation, and draws on that experience as chief scientific officer of Concordia’s District 3 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. In 2014 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, College new scholars, artists and scientists.

Micah Siegel is an active investor in new technology companies through Capital Vanedge, a Vancouverventure capital firm that invests in deep technology, analytics and computational biology, with over $400 million under management. Micah joined the board as part of the Vanedge Capital Leading Index seed funding round in 2021. Micah was an early venture capitalist in Stack overflow (acquired in 2021 by Prosus for $1.8 billion in liquid), Cell search (acquired in 2015 by Becton Dickinson for $120 million in liquid), Sentinel, BioImagene (acquired in 2010 by Roche for $100 million in cash) and a number of other successful businesses.
