Mangaluru, March 5: The Indian Red Cross celebrated its centenary by organizing a one-day state-level workshop on cancer awareness in collaboration with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Yenepoya (deemed as a university), University of Mangalore and the NITTE (considered as a university) at Sahyadri Campus of the College of Engineering and Management on March 3, 2022.
The Cancer Awareness workshop was honored by dignitaries and delegates from 12 universities across Karnataka. It was chaired by Dr. Rajesha S, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and was inaugurated by CA Shantharam Shetty, President, Indian Red Cross Society, DK Dist Branch.
The program was honored by Major Dr Shivakumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, Devdas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation, Kusumadhar BK, IRCS Secretary, DK District Branch, Dr Ganapathy Gowda, YRC Nodal Officer, Mangalore University, Nithyashree BV, YRC Nodal Officer, Yenepoya (deemed to be University), Latha S, YRC Nodal Officer, NITTE (deemed to be University), Shreelatha UA, YRC Program Officer, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Ravindranath, IRCS MC Member, DK District Branch and Sacheth Suvarna, Director, YRC/ JRC Sub Committees IRCS, DK.
Sheena Nadoli, Artist and Lecturer in Folklore and Ninasam, Government Junior College, Beltangady sang a special cancer awareness song. Dr. Jalauddin Akbar KC, Professor and HOD, Department of Surgical Oncology, Yenepoya Medical College & Hospital spoke about “cancer in general”. After that, a cancer survivor and caregiver shared their experience with the audience. Dr. Umme Amarah, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Yenepoya Dental College spoke on “Oral Cancer” and Kaini Cecilia, Research Fellow from NITTE (considered a university) spoke on “Breast Cancer”.
Dr. Neetha Kamath, Associate Professor, NITTE Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, spoke on “Cervical and Ovarian Cancer”, Gireesh GR, Associate Professor, Yenepoya Nursing College, spoke on “Behavioral Changes and Lifestyle for Cancer Prevention” and Dr. Leena KC, Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College gave an overview on “Reaching the Community through Youth Program Officers/Volunteers”.
The farewell program was chaired by Dr. Rajesh S, Principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Jagannath Chowta, Trustee of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.
