BHUBANESWAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that Odisha’s “acche din (good days)” came with an unprecedented representation of the state at the national level.
Speaking at an event marking the 75th anniversary of Odia Prajatantra daily in Cuttack, Shah said Odias was holding top positions in the country like never before.
“President of India Draupadi whisperedMinister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Railways Ashwini VaishnawGovernor of the Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das, and Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Bishweshwar Tudu, Odisha had never achieved such high representation since independence,” Shah said.
Shah praised the people of Odisha saying that Draupadi Murmu born into a poor tribal family in the state is now the “Mahamahim Rashtrapati”.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the role of the media in a democratic society can hardly be overstated. “It should endeavor to uphold our great cultural heritage and moral values and promote national integration and community harmony. The media should perform their duty without any fear or favor,” he said. .
Naveen said the media operates on the basis of people’s trust. The media is therefore expected to prioritize people’s real issues over politics. The media should essentially be the voice of the people. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the event.
Earlier, Shah visited Lingaraj Temple, an 11th-century Shiva shrine and offered “Jalavishek” to the Lord on the last auspicious Monday of the holy month of Shravan, kicking off his one-day program.
Shah is due to attend a book-reading session on “[email protected]: Dreams Meet Delivery” in Bhubaneswar and hold policy talks with party leaders and workers later in the evening. After taking office as interior minister, this is Shah’s second visit to the state. He was in Bhubaneswar to chair the Eastern Zone Council meeting on February 28, 2020.
