So who exactly is Ms. Sunak?
Born in April 1980 in India to ambitious parents Narayana and Sudha Murthy, Akshata and her younger brother Rohan were raised by their paternal grandparents, while her mother and father pursued careers in engineering and science. The tough decision paid off, as Narayana went on to found a £3.5 billion IT services company, Infosys, while Sudha became India’s first female engineer to work for its biggest automaker, TATA Engineering. and Locomotive Company (TELCO).
She moved to the United States to study economics and French at Claremont McKenna College in California, before earning a degree in fashion, design and merchandising in Los Angeles. In 2005, she did an MBA at Stanford University, where she met her future husband. The couple tied the knot four years later in 2009, in a lavish ceremony in Bengaluru, India, attended by high society figures including cricketing legend Anil Kumble. After living in India for four years, they moved to the UK, shortly before Rishi became MP for Richmond in Yorkshire in 2015. The couple have two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, but very little is known about them. them, because their parents have kept their identities private.
In 2007, she started her fashion design business, Akshata Designs, but it collapsed three years later.
